CONGRESSIONAL OUTREACH DIRECTOR
National Security Action is seeking a Congressional Outreach Director to lead the organization’s partnership efforts with Capitol Hill and serve as a member of the National Security Action leadership team. The role will focus on building a robust coalition that advances strong, principled policies to make the United States safer, highlighting Trump Administration and Republican vulnerabilities on foreign policy, and ensuring that Members of Congress have maximum impact.
The ideal candidate would have substantial professional experience with foreign policy and Congress, and would possess an extensive network on the Hill. They would be eager to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with multiple projects and priorities ongoing simultaneously. They will be able to develop ideas, create new opportunities, and execute on bringing these to fruition. They will work independently and opportunistically, building out and managing National Security Action’s partnerships with the Hill and serving as a liaison for their foreign policy communications needs.
Responsibilities include:
Build enduring relationships with congressional staff and members to advance strong, principled policies that make the United States safer.
Lead a broad portfolio of legislative work, including identifying opportunities and vulnerabilities on the congressional horizon.
Serve as the face of National Security Action on the Hill, working to understand messaging needs and respond swiftly.
Keep National Security Action leadership, senior surrogates, and key stakeholders up to date on Hill dynamics, including by identifying key opportunities for National Security Action to advance its work on the Hill.
Help manage outside consultants and team members.
Become widely viewed as an indispensable resource to stakeholders for smart foreign policy messaging and strategies.
Coordinate with partner and like-minded advocacy groups who are active on the Hill to ensure maximum efficacy of effort.
Qualifications
Extensive experience working in national security and foreign policy, ideally with 7-10 years working in government or in the advocacy community.
Experience working on the Hill and/or in a legislative affairs role, with established relationships with Members and their staff.
Willingness to register as a lobbyist.
Ability to manage multiple projects often under deadline pressure.
Ability to represent the organization in meetings with national security principals.
Well-honed communication and writing skills.
Dedication to advocating for a principled national security agenda.
Desire to be a team-player within a lean start up environment.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in policy spaces.

Compensation: $170,000 – 185,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a competitive benefits package as well, including healthcare, dental, and vision.
