Messaging Guidance:

Trump's Decision to Bomb Iran

This weekend, Donald Trump announced the U.S. military conducted strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, marking an official U.S. entry into the conflict between Israel and Iran. The messaging guidance below may be helpful.

Topline Messaging:

  • Donald Trump promised the American people he would end our involvement in costly, unnecessary wars overseas.

  • This is a war

    • Congress has not authorized

    • The American people do not support

    • Donald Trump himself has said he would never pursue

  • Despite all that, the United States is stumbling into yet another dangerous conflict in the Middle East – without a clear endgame, exit strategy, or vision for what comes next. And the same leaders that got us into that mess will now be tasked with leading us through the very chaos that they’ve created.

  • Unfortunately, there is little evidence to suggest that the Trump Administration is up to the task. After decades of war and sacrifice, the American people deserve better than this reckless, shortsighted leadership.

  • Let’s remember how we got here. Seven years ago, Donald Trump tore up an Iran deal that was successfully preventing Iran from building a nuclear weapon. And now, he’s walking away from the negotiating table after just two months of talks – preferring instead to bomb the very nuclear program he failed to rein in.

  • By joining Netanyahu’s reckless war of choice, Trump is putting U.S. troops, diplomats, and civilians throughout the region in harm's way – because he can’t be bothered to conduct the hard-nosed diplomacy necessary to deliver the peaceful resolution that the American people deserve.

  • Donald Trump promised that he would resolve conflicts all around the world within days of taking office. But now, under his watch, all the conflicts he sought to end are getting worse – and an entirely new conflict is emerging for our men and women in uniform.

  • The world is a more dangerous place with Donald Trump at the helm. Unfortunately, poor leadership has consequences — and these are the cost of Donald Trump’s failures.
